Biography

Joanna Montero is a Cuban film editor best known for her contributions to contemporary Cuban cinema. She has edited award-winning narrative features and documentaries that have premiered at major international film festivals such as Toronto, San Sebastián, Rotterdam, IDFA, and Sundance. An alumni of Berlinale Talents (2017), her editing credits on features include Wild Woman (2023), Vicenta B. (2022), The Extraordinary Journey of Celeste García (2018), Santa & Andrés (2016), and Venecia (2014). As the editor of acclaimed documentaries like They Are We (2013) and Mafifa (2021), she has also contributed significantly to the writing and shaping of compelling narratives. Beyond film editing, Joanna has spent the past decade working as a filmmaker and video artist, collaborating with performers, theater directors, and visual artists—showcasing her versatility and innovative approach to visual storytelling.
